Very cool infographic on dystopian literature if you are a fan. :)
Huge congratulations to our very own Emma Pairman who secured one of the coveted spots at the THIMUN Conference in 2014!
The THIMUN (The Hague International Model United Nations) conference is a five-day simulation of the United Nations for secondary school students, which takes place at the end of January each year in the World Forum Convention Center in The Hague. THIMUN now attracts over 3,500 students and teachers from around 200 schools located in countries as far apart as Norway, Australia, China and Ecuador. The students themselves originate from more than 100 different countries.
The next THIMUN conference will start on January 26, 2014 and end on January 31, 2014
... and Emma will be part of it all. We are so incredibly proud of her!
The NZPCB Awards ceremony was held last week and I was lucky enough to attend this fantastic Maragaret Mahy 'Witch in the Cherry Tree' themed event! (This accounts for the rather pink glow in the picture by the way!)
The winners in each category can be found here and it was great to see all of the authors in person; bit of a thrill for a Librarian I can tell you!

READING MATTERS, 2013
I was away last week at a conference in Melbourne called Reading Matters. This conference happens every two years and brings together Australian and international authors to discuss all things related to Young Adult writing and books.
The photo is of me and the wonderful Mr. Morris Gleitzman (author of the great Once, Then, Now, and After books, and many more). You can probably tell I'm extremely nervous meeting my hero in person! Click here for Morris' website.
Some of the other wonderful authors speaking at the conference were:
EcoDriver is a student-run initiative that provides screens around the school to show graphs of electricity usage within the school.
For all those Nerdfighters out there who (sadly) missed the original interview due to an important thing called 'school', WE HAVE THE PODCAST!
Our Student Librarians are AWESOME!!
Thanks to all of our lovely helpers who created the 'horror'fying display in the fiction area of the library ... special thanks to our horror consultants Ryan and Aimee, to Ian and Emma for their in depth discussions about what constitutes horror(!), and to all the other lovely students who climbed ladders and taped and blu-tacked and arranged everything so beautifully.
