GOODREADS' top FIVE books of the 2020s so far!
Number 1
Ms. Hill's review: 5 stars!
There are few words that capture the wonder of this book. I feel like I have been in another world for hours, observing everything from the outside, but also from within the characters themselves. That's some kind of magic, right there! I'm going to settle for simply recommending it to people who love a thoughtful, expertly written, thoroughly absorbing, slower paced book. Ok, I confess ... I haven;t read this one!
I'm not much of a sci-fi person, but I will get to it one day. I'm going to go with the three word book review from my friend Steph, who gave it a 4.5 star rating: "To infinity and ..." Click here to reserve the book from CHSL CW: body horror, medical treatment & procedures, death (off-page) |

Number 4
Ms. Hill's review: 5 stars!
Loved this! Such a great premise and it was so very well-executed. I haven't stopped thinking about it ever since I finished it, and I'm not sure if that's good or bad?! It really does make one reflect on one's life choices to date. Ultimately uplifting, it does have the initial and final concept of suicudal ideation, so I'm popping it into the Senior Fiction section. Number 5
Ms. Hill's review: 4.5 stars!
Oh, my. This was a difficult book to read. The way McCurdyt's every move is wrapped up in her mother's thoughts, dreams, illness, passion, mental health, obsessions ... it is no wonder that McCurdy has issues. Add a dollop of Mormoism and fame at a young age, and you have a recipe for disaster. Oof.
