Minimalist Design Movement
Where do I start?
A quick way to find out more about Minimalist Design Movement is to do an internet search but remember to think critically about which websites you use. For example, this Art Story website is probably more reliable than Wikipedia. Wikipedia has great coverage of many topics, including the topics you are looking for, but you need to be aware that this information is contributed to by lots of different people. If you are using this site, it always pays to check the information against that on other sites or in books from the library.
A definition of minimalism in architecture is as follows:
"Architecture that follows the doctrine that the use of all decorative elements, including ornamentation and color, should be held to an absolute minimum. This tenet considers all such architectural features to be non-essential and of negative aesthetic value, thus promoting the concept attributed to Mies van der Rohe that “less is more.”" (Minimalist architecture. (n.d.). Retrieved 11 March 2015, from http://tinyurl.com/pyajbso)
Minimalist design principles are hard to find information on in a separate context to art and sculpture, or web design. They all use the same underlying ideas and framework so you may be able to extend your search to includes sites that discuss the art and sculpture or interior design or web design. Also, find out the key players in the movement and look them up e.g. Mies van der Rohe.
Using a clustering search engine (such as Carrot2) or a pre-checked search engine (such as SweetSearch) rather than relying on a 'JGI' (Just Google It) approach is a more time effective strategy. You will still need to assess the websites you find for suitability - assess your sites using the CRAP test. :)
